Helpful Hints:
- Suit and blazer sizes are given with one number and one descriptive word, e.g. 38 short, 40 regular, 42 long. The number refers to the measurement of your chest and/or over arm, while the descriptive word refers to your height.
- If you have a normal build, meaning your shoulder width is in proportion to your torso width, a chest measurement will give you an accurate sizing number. If you are thin, thicker through the chest or broad shouldered, you will have to take the more complicated over-arm measurement.
- Suits typically come with pants that are 6" smaller than the coat size, which is referred to as the "drop". A typical suit usually has a 6" drop, meaning that a size 38 coat will have 32 pants. Some suits, especially European or fashion suits, have a 7" drop. If there is a 7" difference between your jacket size and your pants size, looks for a European cut suits. If the difference in your jacket and pants size is closer to 4", you'll need an executive cut suit.
- Suit makers typically leave extra fabric in the pants so they can be let out an inch or two. Pants can always be taken in.
How to Measure:
There are your measurements to consider when determining your suit size: Chest, over arm, height and waist. These are only approximate sizes. Suits and blazer cuts are not exact, just like body types are not exact. It is important to try on the suits and experiment. Shopping will become easier once you find the right fit.
- Chest: With arms at your sides measure around your upper body under your armpits and over the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades, keeping tape parallel to the floor.
- Over Arm: With arms at your sides, have someone measure around the broadest part of the shoulders and upper arms, keeping the tape level at all times. If over-arm measurement is more than 7" larger than chest, go up one size.
- Waist: Measure your natural wait at the height you normally wear your pants.

Use a tape measure to measure around your hand above your thumb, around the back of your hand. Then, use the Gloves & Mittens Size Chart to determine your glove or mitten size.
Tip: Use the dominant hand - the right if you are right-handed or the left if you are left-handed.

For men, as a general rule, the number of inches measured will equal your size, when measured correctly. Be sure to measure your body, do not measure over shirts or slacks.
Head - Measure around head with tape above brow ridges.
Neck - Take a shirt with a collar that fits you well. Lay collar flat, and measure from center of collar button to far end of buttonhole. This length in inches is your neck size.
Chest - With arms at sides, measure around your upper body under your armpits and over the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades, keeping tape parallel to the floor.
Waist - Measure your natural waist at the height you normally wear your pants.
Hips - Stand with heels together, and measure around the fullest part of you hips.
Sleeve - With arm bent at 90 degrees, place hand on hip. Start at the center of the back of your neck and measure across the shoulder to the elbow then down to the wrist.
Inseam - Measure a similar style pant that fits you well. Measure from the crotch seam to the hem.
